Free Bold & Easy Halloween Coloring Pages

Bold & Easy coloring pages are made for relaxed coloring. Their large shapes and clear outlines make them a great choice for beginners—or for anyone who wants a break from tiny details. This guide shows you how to color a Halloween page in the Bold & Easy style, one simple step at a time.

In this step-by-step guide, we’ll color a Halloween scene with pumpkins, a bear, a little ghost, and a lantern. We’ll start with simple base colors, then add a little shading and warm light. You don’t need professional markers or a large collection of supplies: use the colors you have and make the page your own.

How to color a Halloween page: choose a simple palette

A small palette can help the finished page feel cohesive. For this scene, we chose warm oranges, browns, and yellows, with lavender blue, olive green, and charcoal grey for contrast.

Use orange and burnt orange for the pumpkins; caramel and chocolate brown for the bear and wooden details; warm yellow for the moon and lights; and olive green for the bushes and ground. Lavender blue makes a lovely evening sky, while charcoal grey works well for the bats.

You don’t need these exact shades. Before you begin, try your colors on a spare piece of paper so you can see how they look together. If you’d like to explore which colors go well together, a color wheel is a handy little tool.

Step 1 – Lay down the background colors

First, start with the larger background areas. Fill each section with an even base color, without worrying about shadows or highlights yet.

For example, try lavender blue for the sky, warm yellow for the crescent moon, and light cream for the house walls. Use brown for the roof and wooden details, olive green for the bushes and ground, and warm beige for the path. Charcoal grey gives the bats a clear silhouette.

Step 1: the background colors are in – sky, moon, house, roof, bushes and path.

Step 2 – Color the main characters

Now color the bear, ghost, pumpkins, and lantern. Use caramel brown for the bear, with a little pale cream around the muzzle if you’d like extra contrast. Make the pumpkins bright orange and their stems green.

Meanwhile, the ghost can stay almost white, or have a very light lavender or blue tint. Keeping it lighter than the surrounding colors helps it stand out. For the lantern, use brown or charcoal for the details and warm yellow around the candle.

At this stage, the page should be mostly colored, but the colors can still be flat. That’s a lovely finished look in its own right—feel free to stop here if you prefer simple coloring.

Step 2: the bear, pumpkins, ghost and lantern get their main colors.

Step 3 – Add a little shading

Next, for extra depth, choose one darker shade for each main color and add it sparingly. You don’t need to blend everything: a few shadowed areas can be enough.

On the bear, add darker brown near the outer edges, under the arms, and along the lower body. Add burnt orange near the bottoms of the pumpkins and between their sections. You can use deeper green in a few spots on the bushes and grass, and darker brown along parts of the roof, door, and fence. A touch of soft grey or lavender near the ghost’s lower edge can help give it shape.

However, keep plenty of the original color visible so the page stays bright and easy to read.

Step 4 – Add warm light and highlights

Then, use warm yellow in the windows and lantern. A small amount of yellow around the lantern can suggest a soft glow.

If you have a white gel pen or white acrylic marker, try adding a few tiny highlights to the pumpkins, moon, windows, or bear. This step is optional; a few bright touches usually work better than highlighting every object.

Color your Halloween page your own way

Of course, this palette is just one idea. You could make the roof purple, choose pink pumpkins, color the ghost mint green, or create a different nighttime sky. There’s no single right way to color the page.

Start with a few base colors, add a darker shade wherever you want a little depth, and finish with a few highlights if you like. Most importantly, enjoy the process—coloring doesn’t need to feel like another task to finish. Once you know how to color a Halloween page this way, you can use the same steps for any Bold & Easy design.
